Haarlem

Haarlem originated as a settlement on the Spaarne river. Haarlem was granted city rights by Count Willem II in 1245. Haarlem has over 165,000 inhabitants.
Haarlem’s city centre is known for its many old streets and monuments. The city is and goes at least 10 centuries back in time. Moreover, it is known for its cosiness in terms of terraces and shopping facilities.
Haarlem boasts the famous Sint Bavo church, which was built between 1370 – 1520. The church stands in the middle of the old city centre and is very impressive with its 78-metre-high crossing tower. The Teylers museum is also very popular! Just the building itself, dating from 1778, is worth a visit! These sights alone make a visit to Haarlem well worth it!
