Schoonhoven is a small but pretty town with a population of 13,000. The town has 2 ferries and is known for its silver industry, which gives the town the name “Zilverstad”.
Schoonhoven was located on the border between the region of Holland and the region of Flanders, and although Schoonhoven first belonged to Flanders, the town was eventually incorporated by Holland. Traces of the fortified town it once was can still be seen in the centre of Schoonhoven. Attractions in Schoonhoven include the Ferry, the Sint Bartholomeüskerk and the Town Hall.
