Citygames Zaltbommel

Zaltbommel

Zaltbommel in Gelderland was originally called Bommel. In order to distinguish Bommel from another town so called, the word Zalt, referring to the salt trade, was placed in front of the name. The salt, in turn, was used to salt fish. Yet many residents still call the town Bommel. The town is written about as early as the year 850.
The town has 13,000 inhabitants and lies on the river Waal. Its favourable location also ensured that Zaltbommel was affiliated with the Hanseatic cities. The Sint Maartenskerk, the Maarten van Rossum House and the Oude Watertoren are some of the city’s sights that exude its history, so to speak.
