Brussels
The Belgian capital is perhaps the most beautiful city in Europe, with its combination of grandiose buildings such as the Royal Palace, the Grand Place, Manneke Pis and the Atomium.
The city grew up around a fortress on an island in the River Zenne. When the city expanded, a first city wall was built, some parts of which have been preserved. This soon proved to be too small and a second pentagonal city wall was built.
The city is also the seat of the European Union.
Brussels has a lot to offer, but is also a pleasant city, so it is well worth a visit.
