Berlin
The city-state of Berlin has more than 3.6 million inhabitants and is therefore Germany’s largest city and also its capital. Berlin is also the most populous city in the European Union.
Berlin has a long history and was first mentioned in a document in 1237. The city gained most international attention with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent German reunification in 1990. Berlin is considered a world city in terms of politics and culture and has great international economic importance. Many federal institutions and ministries are located in Berlin.
Berlin also has many important sights to offer, such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Berliner Dom, Museum Island, TV Tower, Checkpoint Charlie and the Reichstag.
