Dordrecht

Dordrecht first appears in the books around the year 1120 under the name Thuredrith. A century later, in 1220, Dordrecht received city rights. This makes Dordrecht the oldest city in the Netherlands and has much to offer. The city has almost 120,000 inhabitants.
In the Middle Ages, the city developed as an important trading town and stacking place in the Netherlands. Later, the city’s importance declined, but the beautiful historic city centre still shows much of this rich past.
You can see this rich history, for example, in De Groothoofdspoort, an intact old city gate from the 14th and 15th centuries. The Grote Kerk is also a real eye-catcher with its unfinished tower. All this certainly makes Dordrecht a city worth visiting!
