Enkhuizen
In the Middle Ages, Enkhuizen began its existence as a port and fishing village. In 1356, the town received city rights from Count Willen V. Herring fishing, together with its function as an important import and export port on the Zuiderzee, made Enkhuizen flourish strongly as a town. The town has now grown to over 18,000 inhabitants.
Enkhuizen’s rich history is still reflected in the town with many beautiful sights. The most famous structure is De Dromedaris, a magnificent gateway defending the Oude Haven. Enkhuizen also boasts the Flessenscheepjesmuseum and the sleek Oud Stadhuis from 1688. These highlights alone make a visit to Enkhuizen well worth it!
