With over 763,000 inhabitants, Frankfurt am Main is the largest city in the state of Hesse and the fifth largest city in Germany.
Frankfurt has a long history and was first mentioned in a document from the year 794. The city is one of the most important international financial centres and is of great significance in terms of industry, services and trade fairs. Many important institutions have their headquarters in Frankfurt, such as the European Central Bank, the German Bundesbank or the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The city also has many impressive skyscrapers, some of which are among the tallest in Europe.
Frankfurt am Main has many important sights to offer, such as the Main Tower, the Goethe House, the Imperial Cathedral and the Paulskirche.
