Hanover is the capital of the German state of Lower Saxony and, with over 536,000 inhabitants, is also its largest city and the 13th largest city in Germany.
The city received its city rights in 1241 and can look back on a long history. It is an important business city and a widely known shopping town. When it comes to culture, there is a wide choice with theatres, museums and festivals, and since 2014, UNESCO has included Hanover in the network of Creative Cities as a “City of Music”.
Hanover has many interesting sights to offer, such as the Adventure Zoo, the New Town Hall, the Herrenhäuser Gardens or the Maschsee.
