Kampen
Kampen is a cosy and versatile city with an attractive historic centre. The city on the river IJssel is located on a former river island and has more than 300 monuments.
From the year 1227, the name Kampen appears on old documents. Kampen was an important medieval trading town where Kogge ships made journeys across the Zuiderzee to Denmark. Due to its favourable location on the river IJssel and thus its connection to the German hinterland, Kampen became a prosperous city. Later, the tobacco industry developed in Kampen.
Today, Kampen is a cosy city with a medieval street pattern and many historical buildings.
