Maastricht

Maastricht can rightly be called one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, as early as 500 BC there was a Celtic settlement on the site where Maastricht now stands.
In Roman times, the city was under the influence of Rome and a bridge was already built between the western and eastern banks, connecting the two parts of the city.
Maastricht has almost 1,700 national monuments including the oldest city gate and the oldest bridge in the Netherlands. Also well-known are the Vrijthof square, the city hall and St Servatius Basilica. But above all, Maastricht is a hospitable city with its many terraces and restaurants.
