Silicon Valley is an area south of San Francisco and the place to be for Technology companies. Google, Apple, HP and Facebook, for example, have their headquarters there.
The name Silicon Valley was originally a reference to manufacturing and innovating computer chips made from silicon.
Besides the business activity, the area also has a number of universities.
