Zierikzee
The name Zierikzee is derived from Creka meaning creek. The town is mentioned as early as 976. Today, the Zeeland town has 12,000 inhabitants. Count William II granted it city rights as early as 1248.
Although Zierikzee is a small town, there are no less than 568 monuments to admire. The Nobel Gate, Molen Den Haas windmill, the town hall and the Sint Lievensmonstertoren tower are all well worth a visit.
Yet Zierikzee is more than monuments, it is above all a cosy port city with an authentic character.
