Citygames Zwolle

Zwolle

Zwolle was founded in the Middle Ages on a cover sand ridge between the IJssel and Overijssel Vecht rivers. Such a higher area was called “suol”, which later became bastardised to Zwolle. The name Zwolle is first mentioned in 1040 and the city received its city rights in 1230.
Zwolle was a real fortified town around 1700, parts of which are still clearly visible today. The Sassenpoort is also well preserved and, together with the Peperbus, forms the city’s landmark. But Zwolle offers much more.
The many restaurants on the Melkmarkt and wonderful boat trips you can take and the largely preserved medieval street pattern make Zwolle a “must see”.
